Q. I HAVE A SMALL SHOP AND AM FORCED TO LOCATE MY SODICK EDM MACHINE NEAR MY GRINDING MACHINES. WILL GRAPHITE DUST FROM MY GRINDING MACHINES CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH MY SODICK EDM MACHINE?
A. YES!! Graphite dust and any other dust containing metal particles can be detrimental to your control. Graphite and other dusts found in a machine shop are electrically conductive. These particles can cause short circuits and arcing on your machine's printed curcuit boards, not to mention what it will do to your disk drives. Special care should be taken when installing a machine near certain types of other machines which create excessive dirt or pollutants.
