Q. I OFTEN CAN GET THE MACHINE TO CUT FASTER THAN THE BOOK SAYS IT SHOULD BY ADJUSTING THE CUTTING CONDITION. WHY DOESN'T THE BOOK HAVE THESE FASTER SETTINGS IN IT?
A. Because the book settings are very often a trade off between speed and accuracy. You can boost the cutting condition and hog through the part in record time, but if you need a straight part, or nice round radius corners, you may not get them. If you plan on taking skim cuts and have hogged the rough cut, you may not have stock left for the skims because the high power of your modified rough cut has burned away too much material.
